Portrait Pen & Ink Drawing – Vol. 1: The Basic Concepts & Techniques is a manual for learning to draw portraits using pen and ink techniques. In this small booklet, we will learn the most basic concepts and techniques including the following contents:

1. Basic head proportions and introduction to head anatomy

In this section, we will learn about head proportions to understand the correlation between parts of the face through basic standard measurements. Besides, we will discuss the most basic concepts in anatomy to better understand the structure of the human face.

2. Loomis Method

The second part of the booklet will provide detailed step-by-step instructions on how to draw basic portraits based on the Loomis Method, a very popular portrait drawing method used by many visual artists. Besides, we will also start practicing drawing a simplified version of a human head with pen and ink.

3. The Basic Face Components structure and Anatomy

In this part, we will learn about the structure of the parts of the face including the eyes, nose, lips, and ears. For example, the eye will consist of an eyeball in the shape of a sphere, within the eyeball there will be an iris and pupil, and the eyeball is protected by the eyelids. At the same time, we will also learn how to simplify these parts and practice drawing with pen and ink.

4. Realistic Portrait Pen & Ink Drawing

Based on the simplified structure, we will start drawing realistic face components with pen and ink through step-by-step demonstrations.

5. Portrait Pen & Ink Drawing Process

In this section, we will go through the whole process of Portrait pen & ink drawing. Demonstrations will describe step-by-step process, from sketching using the Loomis Method to shading and inking.
